Leadership Opportunities for Youth
Youth have the opportunity to become peer outreach workers in the community. Peer out reach workers give back to the community by being an active participant in planning, implementing, & facilitating youth events. The goals of the events are to create community awareness of issues teens are facing, integrate youth into our local community, provide creative activities for youth, & promote youth to share his/her voice, talents, & strengths.
Some examples of events local youth have implemented are:
Peer Lead Groups- This is an opportunity where peers will be facilitating chat/ skill building groups at the drop-in center for other youth in the community.
Teen Panel- The teen panel consisted of area youth & young adults sharing their struggles & triumphs through issues local teens are facing.
Free- Style Prom- a 17 yr. old peer planned a prom for community teens. Some of her efforts consisted of, getting over a hundred dollars in donations from local supporters, getting over 50 prom dresses donated so young women who could not afford dresses could have dresses,
S7 Mural Project- Community teens gathered to create a mural with the intention to create local awareness about 350 an environmental movement geared at reducing carbon levels to 350.
My Space- Peers help create & update Third Level's my space page. Some of the things updated on My Space are, current resources for teens, announcing teen events, & listing links to available support services.
Fundraising & Awareness Events- A local 19yr. old peer has developed many creative fundraisers to raise awareness & get food/clothing donations for homeless youth. Peers can also have fundraisers to raise money for events & trainings they would like to attend.
